Dr. Stewart Harris

Dr. Stewart B. Harris, MD, MPH, FCFP, FACPM
Rank: Professor, Department of Family Medicine with cross appointments in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and the Division of Endocrinology
Location: Centre for Studies in Family Medicine
Clinical Interests: Medical Director of the Primary Care Diabetes Program at the St. Joseph’s Family Medical/Dental Centre, London. He was the Chair of the 2003 Clinical Practice Guidelines expert committee for the Canadian Diabetes Association and has been Chair and Vice-Chair for the Clinical and Scientific Section of the Canadian Diabetes Association
Educational/Research
Interests:
Research interest focuses on Type 2 diabetes in high-risk populations including Aboriginal Canadians, new immigrant groups/patients with mental health conditions, and the application of clinical practice guidelines for the management of diabetes in primary care
Awards Received: Dr. Harris has received the following awards: •Dr. Ian McWhinney Award for Excellence in Post-graduate Teaching •Career Scientist Award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care •The Peter F. Drucker Award for Canadian Nonprofit Innovation •Canadian Diabetes Association, Dr. Gerald S. Wong Service Award (2007) •A major gift from Great West Life to facilitate the dissemination of diabetes clinical practice guidelines into practice •Ian McWhinney Chair in Family Medicine Studies, which will facilitate his existing research programs •Canadian Diabetes Association Chair in Diabetes Management, The University of Western Ontario to advance the treatment and management of diabetes in Canada, and to optimize patient care •Co-recipient of the College of Family Physicians of Canada Outstanding Family Medicine Research Article (2009).
